Michael Purcell, DDS



Dr  Michael PurcellDr. Mike has over 20 years of pediatric specialty experience with a primary focus on the needs of kids
to put them at ease during their visit. He has a passion to ensure that oral health is available to anyone in need.






He earned his dental degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in 1993 and was awarded the Quintessence Award for academic achievement and the Operative Award for excellence in practice teaching. After graduation, he practiced general dentistry for three years until he was accepted to a hospital based pediatric dental program at the University Of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska in1996. Dr. Mike’s academic studies have included oral management of bone marrow transplant patients, pediatric medicine, oral surgery, anesthesiology and he was a member of the cleft lip and palate team at Boys Town.

He has traveled with International Surgical Missions to both Ecuador and the Philippines to provide dental treatment in impoverished villages. He has also volunteered services for Colorado Mission of Mercy and Delta Dental’s “Give Kids a Smile Day.” for many years. Dr. Mike received two additional years of special training working with children, teenagers, and special needs patients.

Leah Barshinger, DDS

Dr  Leah Barshinger 2Dr. Leah Barshinger grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She attended The University of Iowa for both her B.S. and D.D.S. degrees. She then completed her residency in Pediatric Dentistry at The University of Iowa (Go Hawks!). Her residency included training in community and hospital settings, with an emphasis on treating patients with dental anxiety and special health care needs.

Dr. Barshinger enjoys traveling, hiking, yoga, and watching college sports. She now lives in Eugene and is excited to explore the Pacific Northwest.

Dr. Barshinger is proud to be an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and American Dental Association (ADA).


Tyler Whiting, DMD

drDr. Tyler Whiting is a Pediatric Dentist who was born and raised in the White Mountains of northeastern Arizona into a large family. He has been around children his entire life, and takes special pride in helping children feel at ease coming to the dentist, inspiring them to improve their oral hygiene at home and receive dental treatment happily and comfortably. As a father himself, Dr. Whiting understands the trust required to allow him to provide for your child’s oral health care needs, and he takes this joyful responsibility seriously.

After Dr. Tyler completed his undergraduate degree at ASU, he finished dental school in Portland, OR. His family then moved to Yakima WA, where he completed his residency training in Pediatric Dentistry and received extensive training in cutting-edge practices including the use of silver diamine fluoride (seehttps://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/12/health/silver- diamine-fluoride-dentist-cavities.html for more information) and all-white zirconia crowns.

Dr. Whiting now lives in Eugene with his wife and four sons. They enjoy outdoor activities such as camping, hiking, swimming, and cycling. They all love good food, good books and movies. One fun fact about Dr. Whiting is that he has a collection of over 40 pairs of funky socks including sharks, saguaros, pizza, pineapples, and flying tacos!

Dr. Whiting is an active member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD), Western Society of Pediatric Dentistry and American Dental Association (ADA).


Our Orthodontist

Adam Ward, DMD, MS

Dr. Adam Ward grew up in Albany, Oregon, and prior to that has lived all across the Pacific Northwest. He and his wife, Jessica, have been married for seven years. They have one energetic boy named Henry, who pretty much runs the family. Dr. Ward loves Oregon, from the rain to the trees. He speaks Spanish, is an avid runner, movie quote buff, and song aficionado.

Dr. Ward completed his undergraduate studies at Brigham Young University. After receiving his degree in Nutritional Science, he attended Oregon Health and Science University to earn his D.M.D. During dental school he was invited to join the OKU dental honor society. He was grateful for the chance to stay in Oregon longer while he completed his orthodontic residency and received a Master’s of Science in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics.

Dr. Ward is committed to providing the Eugene and Springfield area with compassionate care and treatment. He loves being able to help his patients gain confidence in themselves and their smiles.
